Nancy has over 45 years of business experience and expertise, encompassing 22 years as an Information Technology professional and over 20 years working with Leadership and organizational development processes in the Genuine Contact way.
Her background in both private and public sectors includes the health insurance, investment banking, legal, financial, economic development and natural resources industries. As a consultant, Nancy has worked throughout North America, including New York, Vancouver and Halifax. She has lived across Canada from Nova Scotia to British Columbia, including two years in an isolated northern community in Quebec.
Nancy’s breadth of experience in working on diverse projects and in different environments has led her to a practical knowledge of what works and what doesn’t work in and out of organizations which require many individuals to work together to achieve a common goal. Her knowledge of corporate culture, structure and philosophy of various organizations and businesses has led to a deep appreciation of the potential of people working together. Nancy has a natural love and curiosity about people and life. She applies her considerable professional experience as she works to assist organizations to reach their full potential by creating healthy, sustainable and fulfilling work environments.
She has been a co-owner of the Genuine Contact organization since 2006 and was part of the Leadership Management Team between 2006 and 2012 and has been actively working with the Genuine Contact™ program in an online environment as it continues to grow throughout the world. With Certificates in Business Computer Programming and Adult Education, she has completed the Genuine Contact foundation and advanced series and is a qualified trainer in these facilitation methods.
Nancy is now retired and currently resides in Bedford, Nova Scotia. Her passions include meditation, travel, singing, musical theatre, reading, walking and nature.
Why the Genuine Contact way of working?
When I took my first Genuine Contact training in 2002, I was working in a leadership role in high performance environments on projects which were sometimes successful and often complete failures due to lack of understanding and/or communication. It wasn’t the technology that was the issue but that there was no way to bring all the stakeholders together in a timely and helpful way to find the best solutions needed in a fast changing environment. There was always a sense of urgency and many opinions on how to approach the solutions yet no one taking care of the impact or what the changes would create.
My first training in Working with Open Space Technology was eye-opening for me. It was both familiar and unfamiliar as all participants came together with various perspectives and projects they were working on. I later learned that the training was in a different container called Whole Person Process Facilitation which later became familiar to me when I took that training and I recognized many of the components of Adult Education principles incorporated in that training.
The more I deepened my learning in Genuine Contact, the more I found ways to bring back and immediately use the concepts and principles as a leader in my work.
In 2006, I became a co-owner and one of nine members to form the first co-creative leadership team as we worked across countries, languages, cultures to create an online platform where we learned from one another in all kinds of contexts and organizations.
I have learned that simple, effective processes are vitally needed to work with the complexities our technologies demand.
After 6 years of working on the leadership team, and my entire life changing in the meantime, I cannot even begin to say how profoundly working with Genuine Contact has impacted me and my relationship to working with others and my family. I am deeply grateful for this way of working and the friendships I have made all over the world working with challenging circumstances and still bringing the question of life enhancing rather life depleting to the table.
