Creating a Leadership Support System

Online Workshop | November 24, 2021 | 9 am – 12:30 pm EST / 15:00 – 18:30 CET (also available for self-study)

Many leaders focus on keeping the organization and employees in a healthy and balanced state to effectively use the full wisdom and capacity to get good results. They have implemented a culture of leadership, with means that they work with participative, including and creative methods. They trust that people take leadership and responsibility for what they see is needed in the moment.

When people start acting in line with this approach, leaders will see their roles dramatically change, which could cause struggle and internal and/or external challenges. This is where a Leadership Support System is essential as a way to stay strong and keep to the chosen leadership approach. The system is important both for leaders and organizations since it is created to also support and sustain their new way of working.

In this workshop, you will learn

  • What is a Leadership Support System?
  • Components to include
  • First steps to create your own system

Having a Leadership Support System is like adding support structures and beams when you build a house. You can´t always see them, but they are necessary. When you wish to lead differently, the pressure could be heavy, so you need strong support structures to keep you safe. We will go through the components we have found helpful when we have faced challenges. You will then begin to look at what you need and leave with the first steps of creating your own Leadership Support System.

We have both worked as leaders in different organizations and know what has helped us to not only survive but thrive. We also know what it feels like when you have to abandon your intentions because the pressure from the surrounding is too heavy. This should not happen to you, so the Leadership Support System is a necessary precaution.

Your Facilitators

AnnaMaria LindellAnnaMaria Lindell, Sweden lives with her family in a small town, close to the Norwegian boarder. Her leadership experience comes from many years as store manager in the retail business, both in the UK and Sweden. AnnaMaria is used to meet customers from abroad and find ways to adapt to their cultural preferences and at the same time meet the standards of the company brand. She is also used to educate and be a role model for the staff when the company changes its policies and at the same time stay true to her own beliefs about leadership. Today she is responsible for the staff and daily planning in a vaccination center, which means she has her fair share of rapidly changing circumstances, never knowing how her day will be. She knows the importance of creating your own support system as a leader.
Eiwor Backelund JacobssonEiwor Backelund Jacobsson, Sweden is a senior consultant and author, who lives close to forest and meadows in the Swedish countryside. During the years she has worked in many leadership positions in study organizations, political organisations and economic associations where voluntary work was the norm. Working with volunteers means you need to involve them, keep their engagement level high and provide a structure that will both invite and give the necessary space for their leadership and responsibility. Eiwor has found, when leading in a co-creative way, that older leadership norms get challenged, both in others and in herself. That is why she created a Leadership Support System of her own. One component in her system is the Genuine Contact Program, which is an effective toolbox that she has both used and taught for more than 20 years.
