5toFold Collaborative Decision-Making is a participatory methodology that creates the conditions for authentic collaboration in decision-making. Unlike traditional voting methods that create winners and losers, or consensus processes that can pressure people into compliance, 5toFold uses six finger-vote options that capture both the level of agreement and the level of commitment each person has for implementation. This nuance allows for genuine expression while revealing where energy exists to support successful outcomes.

A distinctive feature of 5toFold is the Fold option – the capacity for any one person to prevent a decision that they believe would harm the organization or violate its purpose. This isn't about blocking progress; it's about honoring each person as a keeper of organizational purpose and creating space for wisdom that might otherwise remain unspoken. When someone votes to Fold, it invites deeper listening and often leads to stronger proposals that address concerns before implementation begins.

The methodology includes three phases: planning and preparation, the decision-making meeting itself, and debrief.
